Khariar, the erstwhile princely state, is well known in the annals of history as a seat of rich cultural heritage and literature. The aboriginal tribes such as Paharia and Chuktia Bhunjia with their vibrant traditions, have added to the cultural variety of this region shaped by a long literary tradition. The prehistoric cave paintings of Jogimath and the archaeological findings of Nabanaka, presently known as Nehena, speak volumes of a long-standing civilization in this region. The historic Bir Bikram Dev Theatre and The Khadial Sahitya Samiti, being the oldest ones in the state have earned a special place for this region. Khadial Mahotsav is a modest attempt to showcase this rich cultural legacy of the place. Over all the five days during this cultural carnival, various folk dances and songs are performed to connect the new generation with their roots and soil. Khadial Mahotsav represents the socio-cultural harmony, vibrant folk life and literary tradition of Khariar. It is a festival to celebrate unity in variety which essentially is the desired thrust of this endeavour. I believe, Khadial Mahotsav will keep scaling new heights with each succeeding year..

Since its inception in 2004, Khadial Mahotsav has worked tirelessly to uplift the under privileged sections of society, empowering them with the tools for a better and developed future. And also this is close to my heart because my father Late Umesh Gupta, Ex- Chairperson Panchayat Samiti Khariar was also a member of this organization.
